Despite many changes in 2013, SEO is not death. It's just changing. Moreover, SEO will probably never die. What we have to be aware nowadays is to look how Google update its "virtual animals".
Take a look below where you can find all the metrics what you will need to improve in your html code in 2014:
URL: There is no need to put keywords in your URL. This method was good in the past but not now. When choosing your url address, make sure it's relevant to your business. Bear in mind that URL will not help your rankings.
Meta title: Use your primary keywords first and do not exceed 70 characters. Also make sure you use relevant to your industry title and remember that they will not appear on your website.
Meta description: use your main keywords once or twice and once or twice your secondary keywords. Do not exceed more than 155 characters.
Body Headlines: Use H1 for your title and do not exceed more than 75 characters. You can use your primary keywords in these tags. These tags should be relevant to what the rest of the page is about.
Meta Keywords: They are not use by search engine to determine a ranking.
Body Copy: This is the most important factor nowadays. High quality and relevant to your website content is the key to succeed. Therefore bear in mind that your website needs to be created for readers (with interesting content). You can use in the body text between 1-3 keywords. Write high quality, interesting and relevant text.
